Kachemak Bay Writers’ Conference

The 2026 Kachemak Bay Writers’ Conference will be held from May 16 to May 19 at the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Homer, Alaska, with views of the snowcapped mountain ranges across Kachemak Bay. The conference features craft classes as well as craft conversations, readings, panels, and individual consultations for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. The faculty includes poets Elizabeth Bradfield, Donika Kelly, and J. Drew Lanham; fiction writers Jamie Ford, Julia Phillips, and Diane Wilson; and nonfiction writers Bathsheba Demuth, Chris La Tray, and Zoë Schlanger.

Ucross Residency Program

Ucross offers two-, four-, and six-week residencies from February through early June and from August through early December to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers on a 20,000-acre ranch in Ucross, Wyoming, located 27 miles southeast of Sheridan. Residents are provided with a private bedroom and studio space, chef-prepared meals, and a $1,500 stipend. To apply for fall 2026 residencies, submit 20 pages of poetry or prose and a project description with a $40 application fee by January 15. Visit the website for more information.

UCR Writers’ Week Festival

The 47th annual UCR Writers’ Week Festival, sponsored by the Los Angeles Review of Books (LARB), was held from February 10 to February 16 at the University of California campus in Riverside (UCR) and online. The festival’s programming features author readings and talks, panel discussions, book signings, Q&A sessions, and a Lifetime Achievement Award presentation for poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators.

Margery Davis Boyden Wilderness Writing Residency

The Margery Davis Boyden Wilderness Writing Residency offers a six- to seven-month residency from April through October to a poet or prose writer, or pair of writers, at Dutch Henry Homestead in the Rogue River Canyon of southwest Oregon. Residents are provided with private lodging, including two small bedrooms, a sleeping loft, a living room with a kitchen, a bathroom, and a roof-deck, on 95 acres of forest and meadow. One hour of general homestead maintenance is required each day. Residents will also receive a stipend of $5,000.

Joy Harjo and Camille T. Dungy on Nature Poems
