Tinker Mountain Writers’ Workshop Summer Residential Program

The annual Tinker Mountain Writers’ Workshop was held from June 8 to June 12 at the Hollins University campus in Roanoke, Virginia. The conference featured generative manuscript workshops and tutorials in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and multigenre work, as well as craft talks, individual conferences with faculty members, readings, and social events. The faculty included poet and nonfiction writer James McKean; fiction writers Amanda Cockrell, Dorothy Hassan, Fred G. Leebron, Daniel Mueller, and Rachele Salvini; and nonfiction writer Kristin Dombek.

Tin House Summer Workshop

Community of Writers

Millay Arts

Millay Arts offers two- and four-week residencies from April through November, as well as weeklong group residencies in December, to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers at Steepletop, the historic estate of Edna St. Vincent Millay in Austerlitz, New York. Each residency includes a private room, studio, and meals, as well as access to shared living spaces and the estate’s Alumni and Nancy Graves Memorial libraries.

BAU at Camargo Foundation Summer Arts Residency

The BAU Institute offered a four-week residency from July 22 to August 19 to poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers at the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France, a commune on the Mediterranean coast approximately 30 minutes from Marseille. Midcareer writers who had been working independently for over 10 years were eligible. Residents were provided with a private apartment and access to the Camargo campus, including a reference library, gardens, and a Greek theater. Two travel grants of $1,500 each were available.

Bogliasco Foundation

The Bogliasco Foundation offers monthlong residencies from January to May and from September to December to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the coastal fishing village of Bogliasco, Italy, seven miles southeast of Genoa. Residents are provided with a private room, workspace, and meals, and are invited to attend cultural events in Bogliasco and Genoa. There is no cost to attend the residency, but residents are responsible for their own travel expenses.
