Southampton Writers Conference

The 49th annual Southampton Writers Conference was held from July 10 to July 14 at the Stony Brook Southampton campus in Southampton, New York, located on the Atlantic coast 90 miles east of New York City. The conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings and an agent panel. The faculty included poets Billy Collins and Diana Khoi Nguyen, fiction writer Julia Phillips, fiction and nonfiction writers Matthew Klam and Frederic Tuten, and memoirist Nadia Owusu.

Ou-Telier

March/April 2026

Ou-Telier offers two- and four-week residencies year-round to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators (with March, June, and September as priority times) at the Ou Gallery in the Quw’utsun/Warmland of the Cowichan Valley, the heart of Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Accommodations include a private bedroom in a shared suite, a designated studio in a 100-year-old boatbuilding workshop, a shared kitchen and bathroom, and a year-round patio and deck. Residents are responsible for travel and all meals.

The 18th National Black Writers Conference (NBWC) was held from March 25 to March 28 at Medgar Evers College, City University of New York, in Brooklyn. This year’s conference was themed “Expanding Conversations on Environmental Justice, Popular Culture, Resilience, and Peace.” The conference featured panel discussions, a keynote conversation, presentations by conference honorees, author readings, and writing workshops for poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and literary scholars.
