Author's Bio

Born in Texas and raised in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) of Georgia, United States, Christina E. Petrides lived and worked in Washington, DC, 2003-2013 and on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, 2017-2023.

Her first children's book, Blueberry Man, was published by Tchaikovsky Family Books in 2020; the Korean and Kindle ebook versions were issued in 2021. Christina's second children's book, The Refrigerator Ghost, was published by Kong Books, Seoul, in Korean translation in March 2022. Her third children's book, Tea Cakes, Quilts, and Sonshine, was issued by Tchaikovsky Family Books in September 2022. Her fourth children's book, Mr. Fisher's Whiskers, was first issued by Cep Books in July 2024. Her fifth children's book, My Batty Aunt Betty, is due to be published by Cep Books in 2025.

Scores of Christina's poems have been published in periodicals worldwide. Her first poetry collection, On Unfirm Terrain, was published by Kelsay Books in November 2022. Her second poetry collection, The Laughing Calvinist, is to be published by Kelsay Books in 2025.

Christina is the primary translator of Maria Shelyakhovskaya’s Utverzhdenie v liubvi. Istoria odnoi russkoi sem’i: 1872-1981 (St. Petersburg: Zvezda, 2010), which was issued in 2023 as Being Grounded in Love: A History of One Russian Family, 1872-1981 by Three String Books at Slavica Publishers.

Christina is overseeing the illustration of her first children's book series, The Grisha Tales, about a Soviet rescue cat, with plans to publish the first volume in English and in Korean in Spring 2026. She is also writing more poetry, and records her adventures in a Substack.

Translation

Book:
Being Grounded in Love: The History of One Russian Family, 1872-1981 by Maria Shelyakhovskaya, translated from the Russian (Slavica Publishers, 2023)
Prizes won: 

Blueberry Man (2020) was selected as June 2022 Book of the Month by the Georgia Farm Bureau (Georgia, USA) as part of their "Ag in the Classroom" initiative. The book was nominated by the Georgia Farm Bureau for the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture's 17th Book of the Year. The North Carolina Farm Bureau chose the book for its June 2025 Book Planter Book of the Month.

"The Refrigerator Ghost" (a first draft of the story) was a Finalist in Adelaide Books Children's Literature and Illustration Award 2020 contest.

"Galbi Jjim at Delicious House," an essay about my favorite Korean food at one of my favorite local restaurants, won a Participation Award in the 2nd Korean Food Storytelling Contest held by the Korean Food Promotion Institute, December 2021.

"Life Story" was a Finalist in the Wingless Dreamer Decembré Poetry Contest (November 2021) and was published in the associated anthology.
