Eleanora H. DeWiltshire

Hello,

I am an engineer who is finally getting into writing. I am almost done with the first draft of my first novel, a steampunk mystery set in an alternative Victorian era in what (was) Virginia. I have many other ideas for sequels, other books, and a collection of short stories.

I think that next (while I let my novel sit before editing) I will write one of the short stories and try to submit it to a contest.

I love the research portion, and history especially. Right now while writing I'm also trying to soak up as much as I can learn about the craft, while networking and setting up my brand as an author.

It would be lovely to work with a group on this site.

Sincerely,

Eleanora

My groups: Feedback

H. S. Contino

I'm a bit of a hodgepodge. I'm interested in a variety of subjects and as a result, I write in a variety of genres. I've also had a mixed experience when it comes to publishing. I have traditionally published two non-fiction books (addressing regional maritime history), but I have also had some success self-publishing as well.

Honestly, I'm not sure of my expectations for any potential writing groups that I might join. I would love to find a supportive environment where I could recieve (and give) feedback and writing advice. But, I've had bad luck in the past tyring to find a writing community. fingers crossed that I have a better experience this time! :)

My writing can best be categorized as fitting into the genre/commercial fiction category. Most of my SFF, speculative, mystery, and romance stories feature LGBTQ+ characters. I hold bachelor's and master's degrees in English, and I have been writing for over twenty years. I published two short stories in Sapphic/lesbian-fiction anthologies. I have taken writing courses at the University of Washington and through The Writers Studio and Gotham Writers Workshop. I also taught writing as an adjunct at Fordham University.

I’ve been writing fiction and poetry for around six years and have published creative nonfiction at Litro/UK ( https://www.litromagazine.com/every-satu...  ) and poems at Yale's The Perch, ( https://en.calameo.com/read/004070067728... ) U. of Toronto's Ars Medica (https://ars-medica.ca/index.php/journal/... ) and Pulse Voices ( https://pulsevoices.org/index.php/poems/... )

I’m seeking a critique group in fiction that will help me shape chapters of a longer narrative through discussion, an editor’s eye. I live in Los Angeles with my husband but am looking forward to seeing NYC again when COVID has passed.

I am currently completing my MFA in creative writing, My interests are flash nonfiction, lyric essays, and writing about medicine.

A critique group that is supportive, willing to share, but not too serious, is a plus.

I would prefer a mixed genre group to expand my horizons.

I'm a professional editor with experience in several fields (trade publishing; international affairs; IT). My first novel is out on sub through my agent (as of April 2021) so I'm focused now on research for and drafts of a second novel.

Conference/workshop experience: NY State Writers Institute; Grub Street; FAWC; and Words & Music (in NOLA). Two grad degrees in international studies (but no MFA).

My fiction is based largely on my 1st career, as a Soviet specialist for the US government, but TBH I'm not a fan of most contemporary thrillers. (Exceptions: Joseph Kanon's Defectors and Robert Harris's The Ghost. Other favorites: Rumaan Alam's Leave the World Behind and Rosalie Knecht's Who Is Vera Kelley? )

I'm open to critique groups--happy to read other people's work--but have nothing yet to share myself, so would want any group to include goal-setting and accountability check-ins.

Flexible on how often to meet but bi-monthly or monthly would work best for me.

I have sold 4 novels, and have 3 more finished, 2.5 books of poetry (1 I co-authored with two other local poets, hence the half ;-), and have had a few radio plays produced. Mostly my long fiction is historical with a hint of fantasy; my poetry often incorporates history (no fantasy) and is usually narrative rather than form or rhyme.

Although I live in Kennewick WA, near the shores of the Columbia River, I am a member of the New Mexico State Poetry Society, and thanks to Zoom, have been able to partake in their various workshops.

What I'm looking for is a sense of community, and people who will give me honest critiques (and proofing if needed). If I don't know where it's broken, I can't fix it. Poetry is my first love, and primarily what I am now writing. Of course, if I ask you to read/critique something, I am more than willing to repay in kind.

And I love shaggy dog stories!
