Gell Writing Residency

The Gell Writing Residency, sponsored by Writers & Books, offers one- to three-week residencies year-round to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators at Gell: A Finger Lakes Creative Retreat in Naples, New York, situated on 24 acres in the Bristol Mountain foothills. Residents are provided with a renovated cottage with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a modern kitchen, a spacious living and dining area with a writing nook, and an outdoor deck.

Chesapeake Writers’ Conference

The twelfth annual Chesapeake Writers’ Conference was held from June 22 to June 28 on the St. Mary’s College campus in St. Mary’s City, Maryland. The conference featured lectures, craft talks, readings, panel discussions, and daily workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Sunlit Residency

Sunlit Residency offers weekly residencies of one to three weeks and monthly residencies of up to three months year-round to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators at the Sue-Je Lee Gage Residency for Human Rights and Social Justice in Ithaca, New York. The residency offers time and space to write and one-on-one consultations by request. Historical Novel Society North American Conference

The biennial Historical Novel Society (HNS) North America Conference was held from June 26 to June 28 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, as well as online. Two prizes of up to $5,000 each will be given annually for a book of fiction and a book of creative nonfiction by U.S. citizens or permanent residents published in the previous year; the prize money will be used exclusively to pay for the cost of translating the book into Italian. The winners also receive travel and lodging to attend an awards ceremony at the American Academy in Rome. Books by authors who do not have more than one book of fiction or creative nonfiction translated into Italian are accepted. Publishers may submit 20 copies (digital PDF copies may be accepted in special circumstances and upon request) of a book of fiction or nonfiction in English published between January 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, by May 31. Romalyn Ante will judge in poetry, Leone Ross will judge in short fiction, and Toby Litt will judge in flash fiction.
