We’re a undergrad magazine centered at Merrimack College. We only publish students, whether they’re undergrad, grad, or doctoral. Send us art, and insight. We want to see your best work. We don’t have one single genre that we publish, if the piece is good, then we’ll publish it.

When submitting, please make sure that the piece is finalized, and edited.

The Offbeat, a literary journal specializing in undisputedly unique works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and sequential art, is accepting submissions. Submit writing that is intriguing, eccentric, and, most importantly, “off the beaten path.”

We ask for different. We DO NOT mean unnecessarily explicit content produced purely for the purpose of being shocking. We are interested in quality.

We’re looking for work that’s bizarre, authentic, subtle, outrageous, indefinable, raw, paradoxical. We’ve got our eyes on the horizon. Send us writing that lives just between the land and the sky.

Please note that we accept simultaneous submissions (and appreciate acknowledgement of such submissions), but do not accept reprints/previously published work. Please include a third-person bio in your cover letter. For examples of the work we tend to publish, please consult our current issue and online archives.

It all depends on the work and not on the author's bio.

We believe in supporting the creative endeavors of the writers of the world. We believe literature serves an existential function and its value to humanity is beyond measure. Therefore, we will always remain open to the possibility that an individual work may take us beyond the boundaries known today. We seek to publish work that reflects these values, offers new insights into the human condition, finds beauty in the garish, and that when we read it, we want to read it again and again. We want to fold an issue closed and find ourselves richer for knowing the words contained within.

Please follow our guidelines. Please send us your best. Please don't send work with gratuitous violence or sex in it. We nominate our authors for various awards. We host fee free submission days every reading period.
