Under the Volcano Master Classes and Guided Residency

The 23rd annual Under the Volcano Master Classes and Guided Residency will be held from January 8, 2026, to January 24, 2026, in Tepoztlán, Mexico, a village located one hour south of Mexico City. The program features master classes in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as individual meetings with instructors, weekly open mics, readings, and conversations with guest writers, reporters, and scientists. Classes in all genres are offered both in Spanish and English.

Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference

July/August 2025

The Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference will be held online from July 25 to July 28. The conference features evaluation and discussion of book-length and chapbook-length poetry manuscripts with poets, editors, and publishers. The faculty includes poet Joan Houlihan and poet and publisher Martha Rhodes (Four Way Books). The cost of the conference is $1,000. Hambidge Creative Residency Program

July/August 2025

The Hambidge Creative Residency Program offers residencies of two to six weeks from mid-February to mid-December to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers on 600 forested acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northern Georgia. Residents are provided with a private cottage that features a kitchen, a bathroom, and studio space. The cost of the residency is $250 per week, which includes meals. Limited financial aid of up to $500 and several Distinguished Fellowships that cover a two-week residency and offer a $700 stipend are available.

Oregon Literary Fellowships

Fellowships of $3,500 each are given annually to aid Oregon writers in initiating, developing, or completing literary projects in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. These include one Women Writers Fellowship and one Writers of Color Fellowship. In addition, two Oregon Literary Career Fellowships of $10,000 each are awarded to writers who demonstrate exceptional talent; one of these two fellowships is reserved for a writer of color. Using only the online submission system, submit up to 15 pages of poetry or no more than 25 pages of prose (with an artist’s statement and an impact statement for those applying for Oregon Literary Career Fellowships) by August 8. Maine Artist Fellowship

A fellowship of up to $5,000 is given annually to a poet, a fiction writer, a creative nonfiction writer, or a writer working in a genre outside these categories who is a resident of Maine and has lived in the state for at least one year. The fellow is expected to reside in the state for the year of the fellowship. Writers who are age 25 or older and are not enrolled in a degree-granting program are eligible. The fellowship committee can appoint a translator to assist in the review of work submitted in a language other than English. Using only the online submission system, submit up to five poems, stories, or essays of no more than eight pages each; an artist statement; and a résumé (or a brief bio) between July 23 and September 3. Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize
