Civitella Ranieri Foundation

The Civitella Ranieri Foundation “Nature of Wonder” workshop will be held from November 15 to November 24 at the 15th-century Civitella Ranieri Castle in Umbria, Italy. The workshop features writing sessions, craft lectures, and excursions to museums, local towns, religious sites, and natural settings for poets. The faculty includes poets David Baker, Camille Dungy, and Linda Gregerson. Residents are provided with a private apartment that includes a bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom, and studio.

Chesapeake Writers’ Conference

The twelfth annual Chesapeake Writers’ Conference will be held from June 22 to June 28 on the St. Mary’s College campus in St. Mary’s City, Maryland. Gell Writing Residency

The Gell Writing Residency, sponsored by Writers & Books, offers one- to three-week residencies year-round to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators at Gell: A Finger Lakes Creative Retreat in Naples, New York, situated on 24 acres in the Bristol Mountain foothills. Residents are provided with a renovated cottage with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a modern kitchen, a spacious living and dining area with a writing nook, and an outdoor deck.

Headlands Center for the Arts

Headlands Center for the Arts offers four- to ten-week residencies from mid-March to mid-November to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and graphic novelists at its retreat center in the coastal wilderness of the Marin Headlands outside San Francisco. Residents are provided with a private bedroom and work space in a shared house, round-trip airfare, four meals per week, and a $1,000 monthly stipend. Loghaven Artist Residency

Loghaven offers residencies of two to six weeks year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in five rehabilitated historic log cabins and newly built facilities on ninety acres of woodland in Knoxville, Tennessee. The residency includes an $850 weekly stipend for supplies and expenses, a travel subsidy on a sliding scale from $400 to $800, and up to $200 in reimbursement for shipping materials.

Awards of $15,000 each are given annually to women, transgender, and/or gender-nonconforming poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the Philadelphia area who have been creating art for social change for five or more years. Writers who have lived in Bucks, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia counties for at least two years and who are not full-time students in a degree-granting arts program are eligible. Submit a completed application form, which includes an artist information questionnaire, a list of relevant experience, and a statement demonstrating the applicant’s commitment to “art for social change work” by May 15. A panel of community-based artists will review applications and invite selected poets and writers to submit work for the second stage of the application process. There is no entry fee.
