Sitka Center for Art and Ecology Writing Residencies

The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology will offer two- to twelve-week residencies from October 2025 to April 2026 to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators at the center’s adjacent 80-acre property, located within the unique ecosystems of Cascade Head and the Salmon River Estuary in Otis, Oregon. Each resident is provided with a private room, bathroom, and kitchen in a house, as well as private studio space and access to the Hale Reference Library. Residents are responsible for travel and living costs.

Rockland Residency

The Rockland Residency offered a three-week residency from October 8, 2025, to October 29, 2025, and offers a three-week residency from January 8, 2026, to January 29, 2026, to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators in the Rockland Woods, located on the Kitsap Peninsula across the Salish Sea from Seattle. Writers who are at least 25 years old and are not enrolled in a creative writing program are eligible.

Edward F. Albee Foundation Residency

The Edward F. Albee Foundation offers monthlong residencies year-round to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators at the William Flanagan Memorial Creative Persons Center on the eastern terminus of Long Island in Montauk, New York. Residents are provided with en suite bedrooms in a converted horse stable and separate working studios, as well as shared access to a library, a kitchen, and the center’s grounds. There is no cost to attend, although residents are responsible for meals and travel expenses.

Tremont Writers Conference

The Tremont Writers Conference was held from October 22 to October 26 at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, located in the eponymous national park six miles southwest of Townsend, Tennessee. The conference featured workshops, author readings, and craft talks for poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers, as well as outdoor activities, including hikes and campfires. The faculty included poet Maurice Manning, fiction writers David Joy and Karen Spears Zacharias, and nonfiction writer Crystal Wilkinson.

A Rally of Writers

The 38th annual A Rally of Writers conference was held on April 12 at the West Campus of Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan. The conference featured workshops, craft classes, panel discussions, and readings in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Participating writers included poets Dennis Hinrichsen and Ruelaine Stokes; fiction writers Caitlin Horrocks and Alex Kourvo; and nonfiction writer Robert M Weir. Fiction writer Erin Bartels gave the keynote address.

Atlanta Writers Conference

The fall 2025 Atlanta Writers Conference, sponsored by the Atlanta Writers Club, was held on October 24 and October 25 at the Westin Atlanta Airport Hotel. The conference included a book fair featuring attendees’ books; presentations on the craft and business of writing, including a workshop titled AI and Publishing: What You Need To Know, led by fiction writer, business writer, and IT specialist Jeff Lakusta; agent and editor pitch sessions; manuscript sample critiques; query letter critiques; and Q&A panels for poetry, fiction, and nonfiction writers.

Visual Arts Center of Richmond

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond (VisArts) offers an 11-month residency from September 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026, to a poet, fiction writer, or nonfiction writer at the Virginia Dairy building in Richmond’s historic Fan District. The residency includes private studio space, an honorarium of $5,000, and a $500 budget for materials. The resident writer has the opportunity to teach up to two classes at VisArts on a paid contract basis, host regular studio visits with donors and open studio events, and give a public reading.
