The Tremont Writers Conference will be held from October 21 to October 25 at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, located in the eponymous national park six miles southwest of Townsend, Tennessee. The conference features workshops, author readings, and craft talks for poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers, as well as outdoor activities, including hikes and campfires. The faculty includes poet Linda Parsons, fiction writers Kelli Jo Ford and Ron Rash, and nonfiction writer Crystal Wilkinson. Lodging is available on Tremont’s campus in shared bunkrooms with access to showers and bathrooms; several walk-in tents with bunks and mattresses are available by reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. Off-site lodging is available at local inns and hotels. The cost to attend the full conference, including workshops, lodging, and meals, is $1,725. Financial aid scholarships are available upon request. To apply, submit a writing sample of 10 pages of poetry (one poem per page) or up to 5,000 words of prose (excerpts of longer works should include a 350-word synopsis) with a $4 application fee by May 15.
