Editorial Focus
Our tastes range from conventional to experimental, but we are especially drawn to writing that engages deeply with the world without becoming polemical or didactic.
We have long championed independent presses—those enterprises Raymond Carver called “the backbone of the national literature.” We publish interviews with mostly small-press authors and review books from university presses and independent publishers. We are drawn to political subject matter and publish conversations with activists and artists. We proudly support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Tips From the Editor
In addition to writing, we also welcome original art and audio/visual work. Our reading period rotates; follow us on social media for updates. We charge a submission fee for some genres to help cover operational costs. We waive this fee for BIPOC writers as a form of literary reparations.
