Collateral is an online literary journal run by people who are directly and indirectly impacted by violent conflict and military service. We showcase high-quality poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and art that explores those spaces beyond the combat zone, where the “collateral” effects reverberate.

We seek pieces with a point of view that might not be easily published elsewhere (hence Sisyphus with his rock and his hill). While we aren’t trying to convert opposing points of view, we do hope to offer important contributions that will further discussion and even sway some people. We are looking for a high level of craft, the specific rather than the general, the instance that makes a powerful statement rather than broad political diatribe.

Welcome to Bridge: The Bluffton University Literary Journal. We are committed to young writers- so committed in fact, that we only publish work by writers age 14-24. We are looking for writing that demonstrates virtuosity and wonder, original writing that delights us and challenges us. We publish a print edition in the Spring, and an online edition in the fall. 

The Sun is an independent, ad-free magazine that for more than forty years has used words and photographs to evoke the splendor and heartache of being human. Each monthly issue celebrates life, but not in a way that ignores its complexity. The personal essays, short stories, interviews, poetry, and photographs that appear in The Sun’s pages explore the challenges we face and the moments when we rise to meet them.
