Please read previously published worked to get an idea what we are looking for. Don't just send your MS blindly. We are punk rock publishing. We are looking for energy and edge.

Don't bore me. I'd rather read a slightly wild story that moves me than a perfectly crafted one that does nothing but tell me that maybe you got an MFA in Creative Writing (which: good for you if you did, but I don't care either way).

We review and edit fiction and narrative nonfiction, and the work we publish is almost exclusively available directly through our website, thus rendering us a distributor and marketer as well. Further, Fiddleblack is a participant in whatever collective effort modern literary culture has in encouraging and developing independent literature and its philosophical inquiries into self and place.

Los Nietos Press is looking for book-length works of poetry and/or short story. We are looking for work that is about the person, but also about place; work that sheds light on the author as well as, or in the context of, Southern California. Our particular interest is the people and the place that fans out East and South from Los Angeles, away from the glitz and glamour of the West Side, into the vibrant working communities from East L.A. to Long Beach, from Santa Ana over to the historic cities of the Inland Empire.

We are accepting complete manuscripts only.

Stubborn Mule press publishes a combination of collected works of established poets, first time full-lengths for quality and dedicated emerging poets, and splits for everyone else. Also, radical art-poetry hybrids. Ok, ok, we will probably consider whatever you send us, but seriously, if you aren't old school or brand new, try to get a few of your poetry heroes to do a split with you, then send it to us. Our editorial ethic is "radical country" focusing on folks who exist at the margins of the capitalistic mainstream, writing more about identity than identity politics.

Things we leave for the others:
nostalgia
pastoral
rhymey tripe
overly slammy
micro poems
sex/love poems
trauma pron

Things the mule loves:
existential dread
queer poems
blues references
authenticity
bravery
psycho shitstorms
marginalized folks
a sense of humor
