Though not our only interest, we have a strong like for poetry of place and the relationship between lives and landscapes. Most importantly, we seek an economy of language with a keen focus on voice and image. We like a touch of Lorca’s duende that loves ledges and wounds, Kant’s “crooked timber of humanity.”

Blue Horse Press publishes books and chapbooks, but only on an occasional and unsolicited basis.

NDSU Press publishes regional scholarship and literary contributions. Our region includes the Red River Valley, the state of North Dakota, the Great Plains of the United States and the Prairies of Canada, and comparable regions of other continents. Works published by the press address regional life directly. Such works contribute to scholarly knowledge of region (that is, discovery of new knowledge) or to public consciousness of region (that is, dissemination of information or interpretation of regional experience).

Please send your work as an MSWord document, uploaded to our Submittable portal. Your submission should consist of two documents: your cover letter and your mansucript. Please remove your name from your manuscript. Your cover letter should briefly describe your work, contain a paragraph about what inspired you to write this work, and describe who you see as your potential audience. We conduct in-house reviews; manuscripts passing this first stage are sent out for double-blind peer review.

Open Letter—the University of Rochester's nonprofit, literary translation press—is one of only a handful of publishing houses dedicated to increasing access to world literature for English readers. Publishing ten titles in translation each year and running an online literary website called Three Percent, Open Letter searches for works that are extraordinary and influential, works that we hope will become the classics of tomorrow.

We need to read two sample poems before accepting full manuscripts for consideration. Manuscripts should be in word documents (not google docs), have poems left-justified, and contain between 20 and 30 pages of poems. We lean towards light-hearted poems and collections that are theme-based, but will consider all types of poems.

Have several people read your poems and consider their feedback before submitting. We look for poems that both poets and the general reading public will enjoy. Before sending in unsolicited work, please inquire by email or via contact form on website.
