Three prizes of $2,000 each and publication by Sarabande Books are given annually for a poetry collection, a work of fiction, and an essay collection. For the Kathryn A. Morton Prize in Poetry, using only the online submission system, submit a poetry collection of at least 48 pages with a $34 entry fee by February 15. Diane Seuss will judge. For the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction, using only the online submission system, submit a collection of stories or novellas or a short novel of 150 to 250 pages with a $34 entry fee by February 15. Poetry Awards

Five prizes of $1,000 to $1,500 each are given annually for a single poem “composed in the traditional modes of meter, rhyme, and received forms” (Iris N. Spencer Poetry Award); a single poem written in haiku form (Myong Cha Son Haiku Award); a single poem written in sonnet form (Sonnet Award); a single poem written in villanelle form (Villanelle Award); and a single poem written in Spanish and accompanied by the English translation or translated into Spanish and accompanied by the English original (Rhina P. Espaillat Award). Second-place prizes of $500 are also awarded for the Iris N. Spencer Poetry Award and the Myong Cha Son Haiku Award. Only undergraduate students who are enrolled in a U.S. college or university are eligible. Janine Joseph will judge the first four awards, and Rhina P. Espillat will judge her titular award. Individual Artist Grants for Women

Grants of up to $2,000 each are given in alternating years to feminist poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers who are citizens of the United States or Canada. This year grants will be awarded to poets and nonfiction writers. Using only the online submission system, submit 10 to 15 pages of poetry or prose, a statement regarding interest in receiving support from a feminist fund, a project description, a budget, and a résumé with a $25 entry fee between January 1 and January 31. Nicholas Schaffner Award for Music in Literature

Creative Writing Fellowships

Approximately 35 grants of $25,000 each are given annually in alternating years to poets and prose writers to “enable the recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement.” This year fellowships will be given in fiction and creative nonfiction. Writers who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States and who have published at least five short stories, essays, or novel or memoir excerpts in two or more literary magazines, journals, anthologies, or other publications that regularly feature literature; a novel or novella; a short story collection or volume of short fiction; or a volume of creative nonfiction between January 1, 2015, and March 12, 2025, are eligible. Using only the online submission system, submit a writing sample of 20 to 25 pages of prose, a brief project description, and a list of publications by March 12. There is no entry fee.
