In this Institute of Politics Policy and History video, A. B. Spellman joins a panel of poets, historians, and critics for a discussion of his contributions to literature, music, and the Black Arts Movement, and then reads a selection of poems from his new collection, Between the Night and Its Music: New and Selected Poems (Wesleyan University Press, 2024), which is featured in Page One in the November/December issue of Poets & Writers Magazine.
The 2025 DISQUIET International Literary Program, sponsored by Dzanc Books and Centro Nacional de Cultura, will be held from June 22, 2025, to July 4, 2025, at the Centro Nacional de Cultura in Lisbon, Portugal. The conference features workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as a multi-genre Writing the Luso Experience workshop, lectures, craft talks, and literary walks. The faculty includes poets Erica Dawson, Diana Khoi Nguyen, and Terri Witek; fiction writer Gabriel Bump; and fiction writer and translator Bruna Dantas Lobato.

Studio Faire offers two- or four-week residencies year-round to artists and writers, including poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators, at an early 19th-century house in Nérac, France. The residency accommodates up to six visitors at a time. Residents are provided with a private work space and bedroom and two bathrooms, as well as access to a common kitchen, dining room, and garden area.

The Essere Writer & Artist Residency, which will be held from May 10, 2025, to May 24, 2025, and again from September 13, 2025, to September 27, 2025, offers two-week residencies at the medieval Camporsevoli estate in the Cetona province of Tuscany, Italy. The residency features programming for poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators, including craft talks by poet John Roedel, fiction and nonfiction writer Danielle Trussoni, and nonfiction writer Jennie Lee, as well as individual mentorship meetings with the guest artists in residence.

Yaddo offers two- to eight-week residencies year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. Residents are provided with a private bedroom, work space, and meals. To apply for residencies from May 2025 through March 2026, writers submitted up to 10 short poems or an excerpt of a longer poem totaling no more than 10 pages, or up to 20 pages of prose with a $30 application fee (an added fee of $5 to $10 for media uploads may apply) by January 10, 2025. A two-page preview of the work sample was also required.

The 31st annual Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway was held from January 17, 2025, to January 20, 2025, at the Seaview Hotel near Atlantic City. The program, sponsored by Murphy Writing of Stockton University, offered small intensive workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as one-on-one tutorials, sunrise yoga, and open mic sessions. The faculty included poets Jan Beatty, Nicole Callihan, celeste doaks, R.G. Evans, Luray Gross, Lois Marie Harrod, Le Hinton, Peter E. Murphy, Sham-e-Ali Nayeem, Christine E.

The Rockvale Writers’ Colony offers one- to three-day retreats and one- to four-week residencies between January and October to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators on 65 acres of farmland in College Grove, Tennessee, approximately 35 miles south of Nashville. Residents are provided with a private room, bathroom, and writing desk, as well as access to a shared farmhouse kitchen, dining room, library, and outdoor swimming pool. The property also features common areas, including porches, gardens, and hiking trails.

The 2024 Anderson Center Artist Residency Program offers residencies of two weeks or one month from August through October to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators at Tower View, a 350-acre historic estate in Red Wing, Minnesota. Residents are provided with a private room, studio space, and meals. To apply, writers submitted a writing sample of up to 10 pages, artist and community engagement statements, and a work plan with a $30 application fee by January 14, 2025.

The Good Hart Artist Residency offers two- to three-week residencies year-round to artists and writers, including poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers, in the woods bordering the “Tunnel of Trees” Scenic Heritage Route in Good Hart, Michigan, a village located on Lake Michigan. One artist or writer attends the residency at a time. The resident is provided with a private bedroom, a living room, an open loft with a reading area, a patio, a kitchen, and a bathroom.

The 2025 Todos Santos Writers Workshop Winter Session was held from February 1, 2025, to February 8, 2025, in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The workshop offered daily classes and craft seminars in poetry, fiction, and memoir; one-on-one consultations with faculty; an open mic; a fiesta featuring regional food and cocktails; and beach hikes. The faculty included poet and nonfiction writer Christopher Merrill, fiction and nonfiction writers Gina Frangello and Karen Karbo, nonfiction writer Rex Weiner, and memoirist Jeanne McCulloch. The cost of tuition was $2,200.
