Event Horizon

Event Horizon offers residencies of two weeks to three months year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in modern studios built from converted shipping containers on eight acres of olive groves in Crete, Greece. Residents are provided with lodging on the property’s campsite or in nearby affiliate housing, which includes a traditional Cretan house, a converted stone windmill, and a caravan. Residents have access to nearby beaches and towns, including Fourni Village, Mirabello Bay, and Neapolis.

Rising Writer Prize

Autumn House Press

A prize of $1,000 and publication by Autumn House Press is given in alternating years for a debut work of poetry or fiction. The 2025 prize will be given for fiction. The winner will also receive a $1,000 stipend for travel and book promotion. K-Ming Chang will judge. Submit a novel, novella, or story collection of 100 to 200 pages with a $30 entry fee by November 15. The submission fee may be waived in cases of financial need. Three prizes of $2,000 each are given annually for a book of poetry, a book of fiction, and a book of creative nonfiction published by an independent press in the current year ($1,000 for each author and $1,000 for their respective publisher). Works in translation and graphic novels are accepted. Using only the online submission system, publishers may submit books of poetry or prose published in 2024 with a $65 entry fee ($55 for CLMP members) for the first book and a $30 fee ($25 for CLMP members) for each additional entry by November 15. Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize

A prize of $3,000 and publication by the Waywiser Press is given annually for a poetry collection by a poet who has published no more than one previous collection. The winner will also give a reading with the contest judge at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. Shane McCrae will judge. Aminah Robinson Writer/Scholar/Researcher Residency

The Aminah Robinson Writer/Scholar/Researcher Residency, sponsored by the Columbus Museum of Art, offers a three-month residency from May through July to a poet, fiction writer, or nonfiction writer at the Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson home and studio in the Shepard neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. The resident is provided with a $15,000 stipend and lodging in Robinson’s former bungalow-style home, which includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an art studio, a writing room, and other living spaces. The resident also has access to Robinson’s art, archive, and library.
