Cordite Poetry Review is a quarterly Australian journal of poetry and its criticism. International authors are most welcome. Each issue is themed (broadly), so please be sure to look at our submissions page. Cordite Scholarly is a fully refereed section of the journal, dedicated to research.

We are interested in all formats of poetry. Just because Word can centre a poem in your document, doesn't mean it should. Else, we have no profound DOs and DON'Ts. Each of our issues is guest-edited by a different poet. Submissions are always read blind.

Since the magazine’s inception in 1980, editors and readers have worked to keep alive the journal’s tradition of publishing both established and emerging writers who uphold the highest standards of innovative prose and poetry.

We have eyes for work that is both innovative in form/content and heart-wrenching in theme. Send good lit!

We've published poems by Christian Wiman, Bruce Smith, and C. K. Williams, among others, and we've run stories by Joyce Carol Oates, Grace Paley, Francine Prose, and Leslie Epstein, among others.

We especially like stories, poems, and non-fiction pieces that deal with the spiritual, progressive, regenerative, and transformative elements of life. We’re also highly drawn to works about religion, Israel/Palestine, the Mideast conflicts, and social justice. Please keep in mind that ours is a global, multi-faith readership, and while we appreciate non-English expressions, the language needs to be broadly accessible.

Works must be under 3,000 words to be published in the print magazine. While we have no set lengths for web pieces, works over 5000 words will have to be especially impressive to warrant publication. Novel excerpts are fine provided that they can stand alone. All works will be considered for both the print edition and online. We also welcome simultaneous submissions provided we’re notified in the cover letter and informed immediately if the work is accepted elsewhere. We do not accept previously published work, and we require that all submissions be made through our online system. Please submit only one story at a time and no more than three per year.

Drunk Monkeys is a literary magazine and film blog founded in 2011 featuring short stories, flash fiction, poetry, film articles, movie reviews, and more.

We are looking for original, unpublished fiction and poetry with strong character arcs and immersive description. Build worlds and break hearts. For essays, we’re looking for factual, but not academic–keep the people in your story front and center. We are also seeking in-depth articles on Film and Music.

We are looking for original literary work of the highest quality in many styles, surprising and affecting, formally and affectively innovative. We publish both fresh and experienced voices. We welcome submissions by authors from all walks of life. We encourage writers from under-represented groups. We do place a special emphasis on writers or work connected, one way or another, to the American Midwest. We are always on lookout for vibrant visual art.

A full read of our genre-specific guidelines is always appreciated. Please do write stories that matter. Do go beyond elaborate anecdotes in your CNF. Do surprise us with the form, diction, manner, or subject of your poetry. Do create safety. Do create danger.
