After putting my writing on the backburner for several years, I have finally started creating once more. I recently wrote my first short story in over a decade, which received an Honorable Mention from L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future Contest (2021, fourth quarter). I have several ideas for short stories and novel-length works, ranging in audience from children to adults and in genres such as fantasy, thriller, and general fiction. I'm finally at a point in my life where I will have plenty of time to devote to my writing, and as I'm newly starting out, I'm working on building my routine, finding a writing community, improving my craft, and consistently producing. My goal for this upcoming year (2022) is to finish a novel and also to submit a few short stories to various markets.

I am a graduate of both Texas A&M University, where I received a B.A. in English - Creative Writing, and the University of Houston – Clear Lake, where I completed a B.S. in Computer Science.

I'm looking for a writing group that will push me to improve and complete my fiction novel. I want to provide valuable feedback for writing partners that I can call friends-- and especially to prevent them from throwing any brilliant locution into the ether.

I do not have formal training in fiction writing and this will be my first workshopping experience. I have a backlog of writing (~80k words) that will help me reach internal deadlines despite being a newbie. (In my other life, I am professionally experienced with technical writing, publishing, critiquing, and reviewing for journals... for what it's worth...)

Founded in 2011, Homebound Publications is one of the premier independent publishers in the country. It is our intention to preserve contemplative storytelling. We publish introspective works of creative non–fiction, fiction & poetry.

We are a small press with big ideas set on publishing substance over flash. We routinely work with authors who don’t fit neatly into the corporate publishing model, giving a voice to the countless independent thinkers currently neglected by the mainstream media.

A Letter from the Founder, L.M. Browning

I founded Homebound Publications to bring together a community of like-minded thinkers and see what the dialogue yielded. I didn’t have any sense of how big the press would grow or how widely our titles would be shared, I simply carved out a space in which others could speak and share those deep thoughts they’d pondered. I have always been an ardent believer in creative minds requiring a circle of fellows to push them. The discussion, the inspiration, the contemplation, and the community encourages the kind of boundary-pushing, ego destruction, and refinement of beliefs that bring about movements of change in the larger world.

Representative Authors:

We are seeking titles with special focus on spirituality, education, regional interest, history, personal growth, self-help, and ecological. (We have a soft spot for books about our native region of New England.) Authors representative of the work we seek would be: Barry Lopez, Joanna Macy, Gary Snyder, David Abram, Mary Oliver, Rainer Maria Rilke, Annie Dillard, David Whyte, Cheryl Strayed, Jack Kerouac, Walt Whitman, and Henry David Thoreau.

Up to 6
