Brain on Fire

Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness (Free Press, 2012), Susannah Cahalan’s memoir about her experience as a young journalist struggling with the diagnosis of a rare and mysterious neurological disease, has been adapted into a feature film. Directed by Gerard Barrett, the film stars Richard Armitage, Thomas Mann, Chloë Grace Moretz, Carrie-Anne Moss, Tyler Perry, and Jenny Slate.

Tom Wolfe: Blood Lines

This independent documentary film directed by Oscar Corral explores Tom Wolfe’s writing life and his fourth novel, Back to Blood (Little, Brown, 2012), which is set in Miami and focuses on the subject of immigration. Wolfe died at the age of eighty-seven on May 14, 2018.

Fjords Vol.1

The book trailer for Zachary Schomburg’s collection Fjords Vol. 1 (Black Ocean, 2012), filmed by Joe Riina-Ferrie, is based on live performances of the poems, which were created in collaboration with Manual Cinema, Chicago Q Ensemble, and composer Kyle Vegter. Schomburg is a founding editor of Octopus Books, a small poetry press in Portland, Oregon, and his debut novel, Mammother, was published by Featherproof Books in 2017.

Herman Koch’s novel, The Dinner (Hogarth, 2012), translated from the Dutch by Sam Garrett, has been adapted into a feature film directed by Oren Moverman and starring Steve Coogan, Richard Gere, Rebecca Hall, and Laura Linney. The story unfolds over the course of a dinner as two couples struggle over moral implications surrounding a crime committed by their teenage sons.
