Hambidge Creative Residency Program

The Hambidge Creative Residency Program offers residencies of two to six weeks from mid-February to mid-December to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers on 600 forested acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northern Georgia. Residents are provided with a private cottage that features a kitchen, a bathroom, and studio space. The cost of the residency is $250 per week, which includes meals. Limited financial aid of up to $500 and several Distinguished Fellowships that cover a two-week residency and offer a $700 stipend are available.

Vashon Artist Residency

The Vashon Artist Residency offers two- and four-week residencies from January to November to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators on Vashon Island, a 20-minute ferry ride from Seattle. Residents are provided with a private room, a bathroom, and a shared kitchen, as well as access to a shared studio. Residents are responsible for travel and meal costs. The cost of the residency is determined on a sliding scale based on financial need; the full price is $1,875 for four weeks and $1,125 for two weeks.

Arteles Creative Center

The Arteles Creative Center’s Silence Awareness Existence Residency Program offers one-month residencies to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators from January to March in the countryside region of Hämeenkyrö, Finland. Each resident is provided with a private bedroom and desk as well as access to shared kitchens, bathrooms, and studio spaces in two residency buildings. Residents also have access to a range of facilities, including a library, a meditation space, a sauna, and common areas. Two cars are available for transportation and exploration.

Buinho Creative Hub Residencies

Buinho Creative Hub offers residencies of two weeks to two months year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the historic town of Messejana, Portugal. Residents are provided with a single-or double-occupancy room in one of three traditional Portuguese houses, as well as access to private and shared studios. The Buinho residence also features a central studio and backyard workshop. The cost of the residency is €800 to €1,000 (approximately $894 to $1,118) per month, depending on the room; transportation and meals are not included.

Concord Free Public Library Writer-in-Residence Program

The Concord Free Public Library Writer-in-Residence Program offers a six-month residency from January to June to a poet, fiction writer, or creative nonfiction writer at the historic Concord Free Public Library (CFPL) in Concord, Massachusetts. Can a typo inspire a story? In the opening paragraph of Anelise Chen’s memoir, Clam Down: A Metamorphosis (One World, 2025), the narrator recalls a text message from her mother wherein the phrase “calm down” has been transformed, whether through a typo or autocorrect, into “clam down.” This cryptic mistake becomes the premise for a story of metamorphosis and connections, withdrawal and closing up, and family history, as Chen weaves in mollusk science and explores a long-ago period of her father’s retreat from the family. Spend some time observing words and language you see in your daily life from text messages, signage, advertisements, and labels. Select a phrase that has the potential to be interpreted in an open way and leads you into writing a new story, perhaps one that incorporates science, the natural world, and elements of the fantastic.
