White Whale Bookstore

White Whale Bookstore is a family-owned, general interest independent bookstore in Pittsburgh. Their selection of new books includes a broad range of contemporary and literary fiction and nonfiction, poetry, history, philosophy, local authors, independent presses, children’s books, and much more. The bookstore aims to be a community hub—a place for engagement, conversation, and sharing ideas. They host author readings, poetry nights, writing workshops, book clubs, children’s story hour, school visits, offsite literary series, and anything else that sounds like a good fit to the owners.

Subterranean Books

Hosting literary events throughout the year, Subterranean Books is dedicated to bringing in the most amazing local and national writers, across genres. They host readings, signings, and book release parties, all to the delight of their customers—both brand-new and already dedicated.

East Bay Booksellers

Formerly known as DIESEL, A Bookstore, the space has transformed into East Bay Booksellers. Still a neighborhood bookstore, the shop was created to provide a place for creating and maintaining community in an atmosphere that promotes the free, mutually-supportive exchange of ideas and experiences. With a wide selection of books and events, East Bay Booksellers is a cultural center that aims to support the literary community.

Loyola University, Maryland’s Writing Department

The Writing Department at Loyola, apart from offering one of the very few undergraduate writing majors in the country, also hosts various reading events that are open to the public, including the Writers at Work Reading Series and the Modern Masters Reading Series. 

Trinosophes

Trinosophes is an independent arts venue and café, located in the historic Eastern Market district of Detroit. The vegan-friendly café features locally sourced fare and the art space hosts live music, art exhibits, and poetry readings. The space also houses Trinosophes Projects, a 501(c)3 non-profit arts organization that presents hundreds of concerts, exhibitions, film screenings, literary readings and other art events per year by international artists.

Walker Art Center

Internationally recognized as a leading arts venue, the Walker Art Center presents contemporary visual arts and design exhibitions, dance, theater, and music performances, and film screenings. The Walker hosts lectures, classes, and events for visitors of all ages with many of today’s leading figures from the worlds of art and culture.

Emerson College’s Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing

Emerson College’s Department of Writing, Literature, and Publishing hosts two reading series, the WLP Reading Series and the Faculty/Alumni Reading Series. Both are free and open to the public.

The Department of Writing, Literature, and Publishing collaborates with other academic departments and student organizations to bring renowned publishers, writers, and scholars to Emerson College.

Reed College’s Creative Writing Department

The Visiting Writer Series at Reed College is sponsored by the Department of English. The intent is to bring interesting and diverse writers of prose and poetry to Reed to do readings and discussions. The department maintains a mailing list to which interested people can subscribe, to receive details of the upcoming readings.

The Visiting Writers Series takes place in the Eliot Chapel. The readings begin at 6:30 PM. Books are sold and refreshments are served.
