It all depends on the work and not on the author's bio.

We believe in supporting the creative endeavors of the writers of the world. We believe literature serves an existential function and its value to humanity is beyond measure. Therefore, we will always remain open to the possibility that an individual work may take us beyond the boundaries known today. We seek to publish work that reflects these values, offers new insights into the human condition, finds beauty in the garish, and that when we read it, we want to read it again and again. We want to fold an issue closed and find ourselves richer for knowing the words contained within.

Please follow our guidelines. Please send us your best. Please don't send work with gratuitous violence or sex in it. We nominate our authors for various awards. We host fee free submission days every reading period.

While we encourage you to go through our archives to get a sense of our aesthetic, we can say that we generally have a preference for poetry that is written with clear intention, poetry that is dense, meaningful & artistic. Though we consider every submission, we prefer poems of average length, poems that fit on a page.

It is best to visit the FAQs section of our submissions page: ellisreview.com/submissions for further suggestions.

Each issue contains approx 70-90 poems from about that many poets. Some from previous issues and some new.

We enjoy poetry from accomplished as well as emerging poets. Each issue has a unique theme and we encourage unique perspectives and interpretations of each theme. We like all forms of poetry, but tend to shy away from sing-songy forced rhyme. We love inventive verbs, language used in new ways, and concrete imagery.

Please follow the guidelines. We’re a team of two people, so it makes it easier for everyone and allows for quicker response time.

We’re seeking work that’s energetic, imaginative, and original.  Send us fiction with strong, idiosyncratic voices, creative nonfiction that honestly and eloquently strips all pretenses away, and poetry that uses language with power and precision.

To get a feeling for the work we publish, we encourage you to consult the issues available on our website. When you feel ready, please read our submission guidelines and then send us your best work, along with a third-person bio of 100 words or less.

Alchemy is committed to publishing quality, contemporary translations of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction creative writing. We publish creative translations and adaptations. It is our belief that translation can teach us new things about writing and about language itself. Alchemy is based in the University of California, San Diego’s Literature and Linguistics departments and is edited and published by UCSD students.

Please review our submission guidelines; we welcome translations by students of any level and by emerging translators fewer than five years out of school. Don't forget that we are interested in both traditional translations and experimental translations, including homophonic, homolinguistic, and other poetic forms. We love textual, visual, audio, and other formats, too.

An international biannual online magazine that publishes Surrealist poetry in English.

SurVision seeks Surrealist poems of any school written in English. You may submit no more than 5 poems per submission. We will occasionally consider prose poems and essays on Surrealism and Neo-Surrealist poetry. On rare occasions, translations of Surrealist poems from other languages will be considered. All the poems must be unpublished original work of the author. We do accept work that is under consideration elsewhere, but let us know immediately if your poem(s) have been accepted for publication. We normally publish between one and three poems per poet per issue.
