Three prizes of $1,500 each, publication by Washington Writers’ Publishing House, and 25 author copies are given annually for a poetry collection, a short story collection or novel, and a poetry collection in translation. Writers who live in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia are eligible. Using only the online submission system, submit a manuscript of 70 to 100 pages of poetry or 150 to 250 pages of prose with a $28 entry fee by July 15. Chapbook Contest

Housatonic Book Awards

The winners also receive $500 in travel expenses and a hotel stay to give a reading and teach a master class at Western Connecticut State University’s low-residency MFA program. Arteles Creative Center

The Arteles Creative Center’s Silence Awareness Existence Residency Program offers one-month residencies to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators from January to March in the countryside region of Hämeenkyrö, Finland. Each resident is provided with a private bedroom and desk as well as access to shared kitchens, bathrooms, and studio spaces in two residency buildings. Residents also have access to a range of facilities, including a library, a meditation space, a sauna, and common areas. Two cars are available for transportation and exploration.

Civitella Ranieri Foundation

The Civitella Ranieri Foundation “Nature of Wonder” workshop will be held from November 15 to November 24 at the 15th-century Civitella Ranieri Castle in Umbria, Italy. The workshop features writing sessions, craft lectures, and excursions to museums, local towns, religious sites, and natural settings for poets. The faculty includes poets David Baker, Camille T. Dungy, and Linda Gregerson. Residents are provided with a private apartment that includes a bedroom, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and a studio.
