Editorial Focus

Established in 2015, Half Mystic Journal is an international, independent, and interdisciplinary literary magazine dedicated to the celebration of music in all its forms.

Tips From the Editor

We are interested primarily in writing that considers music integral to and inseparable from language, and writing that sings as an avenue to story. We’re particularly interested in pieces that reframe, refract, and expand upon the issue’s theme, serving as incantations and invocations for melody. We generally gravitate to the lyrical over the straight-talking and the surreal over the down-to-earth, but also, we like to be narratively, imagistically, and emotionally surprised. On the whole, we’re drawn to many of the same qualities in literature that we are in people—namely, work that knows where it came from and what it has to lose. Work that takes the risk with its eyes wide open.
