Paint It Black

Poet and actress Amber Tamblyn makes her directorial debut with the film adaptation of Janet Fitch’s novel Paint It Black (Little, Brown, 2006), which stars Janet McTeer, Alfred Molina, and Alia Shawkat. The Dark Tower

Rebecca Skloot’s nonfiction book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (Crown Publishing Group, 2010), which explores the life and legacy of an African American woman whose cells became the basis of numerous scientific breakthroughs, has been adapted into a television movie starring Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne.

The Zookeeper’s Wife

Diane Ackerman’s The Zookeeper’s Wife: A War Story (Norton, 2007) recounts the true story of how keepers of the Warsaw Zoo saved hundreds of lives during the German invasion in Poland. The book has been adapted into a feature film directed by Niki Caro, and stars Jessica Chastain and Johan Heldenbergh.

Wilson

Daniel Clowes’s graphic novel Wilson (Drawn and Quarterly, 2010) has been adapted into a feature film starring Isabella Amara, Laura Dern, and Woody Harrelson. Directed by Craig Johnson, the film follows the comedic story of a lonely middle-aged man who reconnects with his estranged wife to search for their daughter who was given up for adoption.

T2 Trainspotting is the sequel to director Danny Boyle’s 1996 film, Trainspotting, an adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s debut novel of the same name. The sequel, based on Welsh’s novel Porno (Norton, 2002), takes place twenty years later and reunites cast members Ewen Bremner, Robert Carlyle, Kelly Macdonald, Ewan McGregor, and Jonny Lee Miller.
