Author's Bio

BIO: Doris Ferleger, MFA, Ph.D., poet laureate emeritus of Montgomery County PA, and winner of the New Millennium Poetry Prize, New Letters Poetry, Songs of Eretz Prize, and the AROHO CNF Prize, among others, is the author of five full-length books, including Big Silences in a Year of Rain, As the Moon Has Breath, Leavened, As for the Kiss, and To Claim Loneliness, and a chapbook entitled When You Become Snow. Her work has been published in numerous journals including Lilith, Cortland Review, Delmarva Review, and Poet Lore. Aliki Barnestone writes of Ferleger’s award winning work: "Ferleger’s memorable poems keep singing with their insistent beauty." Ferleger has attended conferences nationally and internationally including Bread Loaf Writers Conference in Vermont and Sicily, Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference, Summer Literary Seminars in Lithuania, Polish Poetry Conference in Krakow, Poland, Vermont College of Fine Arts Poetry Manuscript Conference and studied in a month long residency under Terrance Hayes at atlantic Center for the Arts. She holds an MFA in Poetry and a PhD in psychology and maintains an Imago-based couples therapy practice and mindfulness based therapy practice. Ferleger uses poetry in her Imago and mindfulness approaches in her practice as a way to help clients feel compassion for life's inevitable challenges.
