
The 2023 Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference was held from August 16 to August 26 in the Green Mountains of Ripton, Vermont. The conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction as well as lectures; craft classes; meetings with editors, agents, and publishers; and readings by faculty and guests. The faculty included poets Erin Belieu, Victoria Chang, Vievee Francis, Tomás Q. Morin, Matthew Olzmann, Carl Phillips, and Patrick Phillips; fiction writers Dean Bakopoulos, Christopher Castellani, Alice Elliott Dark, Tania James, Emily Raboteau, Jess Row, Luis Alberto Urrea, Laura van den Berg, Tiphanie Yanique, and Paul Yoon; and creative nonfiction writers Jennifer Finney Boylan, Elisa Gabbert, and David Treuer. Special guests included novelist and memoirist Sigrid Nunez and nonfiction writer Kamran Javadizadeh. Publishing professionals included editors Ibrahim Ahmad (Viking) and Elizabeth Ash (Copper Canyon Press); and agents Ian Bonaparte (Janklow & Nesbit Associates) and Anjali Singh (Ayesha Pande Literary). Tuition was $3,985, which included lodging and meals. Financial aid was available. Writers submitted up to 10 pages of poetry or no more than 6,000 words of prose with a $20 application fee by February 15. Visit the website for more information.
