The 2017 Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference was held from August 16 to August 26 in the Green Mountains of Ripton, Vermont. The conference included workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as lectures, craft classes, meetings with editors and agents, and readings by faculty and guests. The faculty included poets Rick Barot, Eavan Boland, Edward Hirsch, Garrett Hongo, Sally Keith, Carl Phillips, and Ellen Bryant Voigt; fiction writers Charles Baxter, Maud Casey, Christopher Castellani, Lan Samantha Chang, Stacey D’Erasmo, Peter Ho Davies, Lauren Groff, Randall Kenan, Jay Parini, and Helena María Viramontes; and creative nonfiction writers Ann Hood, David Shields, and Luis Alberto Urrea. Tuition was $3,265, which includes lodging and meals. The fee for auditors who do not have a manuscript was $3,130. Financial aid was available. Writers submitted up to 10 pages of poetry or up to 6,000 words of prose with a $15 application fee by February 15. Visit the website for an application and complete guidelines.
