Author's Bio

A poet, educator, and editor in Mississippi, Scott Bailey is the author of Thus Spake Gigolo published by New York Quarterly Books. His poems and translations of Latin American Poets have appeared in journals such as "580 Split," "The Adirondack Review," "Chelsea," "The Cortland Review," "Epiphany," "Exquisite Corpse," "Harpur Palate," "Indiana Review," "Jabberwock Review,"  "The Journal," "Meridian," "New York Quarterly," "Ocean State Review," "Poetry International," "Prism International," "The Southeast Review," and "Verse Daily," among others. His degrees include a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Creative Writing from The University of Southern Mississippi, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from New York University, and a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from Florida State University. A former writer-in-residence for the Mississippi Arts Commission and the Valparaiso Foundation in Spain, Bailey has taught writing courses at Brown University, New York University, Florida State University, The University of Southern Mississippi, Tougaloo College, and elsewhere. Committed to bringing poetry to the community, he has worked with arts-based coalition programs in Mississippi where he conducted workshops at The Forrest County Juvenile Detention Center and The Harrison County Adult Correctional Facility, and in New York where he conducted workshops at The Ronald McDonald House and St. Mary's Hospital for Kids. A Submissions Screener for the Alice James Award, (Alice James Books), he has held editorial appointments at "Arrowhead," "New Laurel Review," "New York Quarterly," "The Southeast Review," and "Washington Square Review."
