In this installment of the PBS American Masters documentary series Renegades, which highlights the cultural contributions of little-known historical figures with disabilities, the series spotlights the life and career of editor Judy-Lynn del Rey who revolutionized the world of science fiction by editing and publishing books from writers such as Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, and George Lucas.

“It took me a long time, a lot of books under my belt before I could finally sit down and say, I am now skilled enough and experienced enough and confident enough to write The Art of Prophecy.” In this video, Wesley Chu speaks about his love of fantasy and Wuxia, and combining these genres in his new novel, The Art of Prophecy (Del Rey, 2022), the book he’s always wanted to write.
“The book is really about how these people, while they have superpowers on their own, don’t truly become powerful until they’re together as a group.” Bob Proehl talks about his dystopian science fiction novel, The Nobody People (Del Rey, 2019), which follows a group of outcasts with supernatural abilities who band together against violent mobs and a discriminatory government.
"There are traditional distinctions and there is a cultural distinction [between genre and literary fiction], but I think at the moment it's breaking down quite a lot." China Miéville, author of the new novella, This Census-Taker (Del Rey, 2016), talks about current perspectives in contemporary literature and his own creative inspirations.
