Worldbuilding! Creating a whole new world is a daunting task. Within pages or even paragraphs, an author needs to clearly establish its rules, introduce the major players, give them all motivations that bring them together as the action comes to a head, with the ultimate goal of leaving everyone profoundly changed by the final page. Whew! In this workshop, we'll close read the opening pages of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins to examine how the narrative lays the groundwork for establishing a new world and play with creating one of our own.
