Writing Workshop: Embracing “Plausible Magic” In Your Fiction with David Queen

04/23/2020 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Fiction
Workshop

Plausible magic is a technique that suggests an unbelievable—and often surreal—scenario can arise from “believable” character action and reasonable narrative means. Plausible magic is ordinary life rendered strange through the strength of the author’s vision. In this course, students will read and discuss the wonderfully bizarre stories of Alexandra Kleeman, Donald Antrim, Camille Bordas, Joy Williams, and more.

Write On! Using Writing to Heal

03/25/2020 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Creative Nonfiction
Workshop

The author Flannery O'Connor once noted, "I write because I don't know what I think until I read what I say." Write On! takes that idea to individuals living with trauma or a mental health issue and helps them learn how to use writing as a way to heal. This 8-week writing workshop is designed for adults (age 30+) who are looking for a safe space for inner exploration in a welcoming environment that we create together. The class includes writing tips, feedback on written work, assignments outside of class, and sharing work when writers are ready.
