Martin Scorsese’s film adaptation of Shusaku Endo’s 1966 novel, Silence, which was translated from the Japanese by William Johnston, tells the story of two Jesuit missionaries in seventeenth-century Japan searching for their mentor. The film stars Adam Driver, Andrew Garfield, and Liam Neeson.
