The Book Tavern is a small independent bookstore located in the heart of Downtown Augusta that sells new, used, and rare books.
Kepler’s Books was founded in Menlo Park in May 1955 by peace activist Roy Kepler. For sixty years, Kepler’s has been the intellectual and cultural hub for the Peninsula, known for its outstanding literary events, knowledgeable staff, broad selection of books and magazines, and deep ties to the community.
Bound Together Bookstore is an Anarchist collective-run bookstore featuring radical literature and events. Every spring, Bound Together hosts the Bay Area Anarchist Book Fair—a large gathering of booksellers, distributors, independent presses, political groups, and other vendors from the local area, the west coast, and North America—which offers an array of books, pamphlets, zines, art, and information. The book fair also showcases an all-day roster of speakers and panels featuring radical authors and organizations.
Since 1992, Dog Eared Books has been supplying a book-hungry San Francisco with new, used, and remaindered books as well as magazines, calendars, and notebooks. It is a general interest store, so it has a little of everything, but specializes in Beat, off-beat, small press, and local literature. A second location is in the Castro at 489 Castro Street.
The Top Shelf: A Literary Loft is a project of Old Books on Front Street. The carefully curated bed-and-breakfast loft on the second floor of the family-owned bookstore is filled with books by and about North Carolina authors, and accepts reservations for overnight lodging from book lovers who have always dreamed of spending the night in a bookstore.
The Open Book mission is to bring good books to the attention of readers. The bookstore is unique: it doesn’t try to have the breadth of selection you’ll find at other retailers. What you’ll find instead is a carefully curated collection of books that they endorse. Open Book has literary and classic fiction and nonfiction, young adult and children’s books, and a range of books by local authors in the Greater Philadelphia area. And if it's not in stock, they're happy to special order.
Open Book also runs classes, workshops and events for readers, writers, and thinkers.
Booked Up began over thirty years ago in Washington, D.C. and is now located in the Texas panhandle, just two hours northwest of DFW Airport in Larry McMurtry’s hometown of Archer City, Texas. Booked Up carries between 150,000 and 200,000 fine and scholarly books. All stock has been purchased and shelved over the last four decades by owner and founder Larry McMurtry.
Mystery to Me offers a wide selection of everything from cozies and historical mysteries to thrillers and police procedurals. In addition to mystery, they have a small non-mystery nook along with a growing selection of work by local authors that includes everything from poetry to memoir. There is also a growing selection of children and young adult titles.
Midtown Scholar is the largest academic bookstore in Pennsylvania, with over one million books in their Harrisburg warehouse and storefront. The bookstore also hosts a variety of events, including: author readings, book clubs, and musical performances.
Brattle Book Shop is one of America's oldest and largest used bookstores. It features two floors of general and used books, a third floor of rare and antiquarian books, and an outside sale lot. Brattle Books also hosts literary events.
