powerHouse on 8th

PowerHouse on 8th is a bookstore, reading club, mini-gallery, and community space in the South Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, offering the best in fiction, nonfiction, children’s, YA, novelty, and cooking books, as well as decor and stationery—all from the curatorial minds hived at Dumbo’s famed powerHouse Arena. The shop hosts book launches, readings, and a Sunday Story Time series.

WORD Jersey City

WORD has two bookstores, one in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and one in Jersey City. Established in 2013, the Jersey City location has an inventory of current and past favorites from all genres and categories as well as a café serving coffee and treats. They host a full calendar of events each month, from provocative and thoughtful to flat-out fun.

Avid Bookshop

Avid Bookshop is a locally-owned, Athens, Georgia-based business. The shop regularly holds events such as readings and book signings, kids’ story times, poetry nights, workshops with authors, and more. 

Atomic Books

Atomic Books, a small independent bookstore in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore, was reopened by Benn Ray and Rachel Whang in 2001. Specializing in unusual literature and comic books, the store hosts author events and readings, including the Atomic Book Club and the Atomic Fiction Series.

Annie Bloom’s Books

A neighborhood independent bookstore, Annie Bloom’s Books carries a broad range of new (not us_d) books across many genres. Along with a strong fiction section, they excel in children’s and young adult, travel, current events, and cooking. The bookstore hosts frequent book readings and signings, writer talks, local authors, and First Friday activities.

Anderson’s Bookshop: Naperville

An independent, family-owned bookstore with locations in Naperville, Downers Grove, and La Grange, selling books independently since 1875. The bookstore hosts a variety of author events and owner Becky Anderson interviews visiting authors for NCTV17’s Authors Revealed.

An Unlikely Story Bookstore & Café

On the site of the historic Falk’s Market, Julie and Jeff Kinney created a cornerstone in downtown Plainville with an independent bookstore, a café, and an event space for hosting author events. An Unlikely Story Bookstore and Café is a community gathering place for meeting authors, eating breakfast or lunch, or relaxing with a new book and a beer or glass of wine. Directly upstairs to An Unlikely Story is the Second Story.

Albertine

A project of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, this bookshop focuses on books in French and English, with more than fourteen thousand contemporary and classic titles from thirty French-speaking countries. Throughout the year, Albertine hosts many author readings and events, including debates and discussions exploring popular and classical culture through a modern and global lens.
