Editorial Focus

Fourth Genre is devoted to publishing notable, innovative work in literary (creative) nonfiction, and the editors are especially looking to provide space to voices less seldom heard from in literary publications.

Tips From the Editor

Please write for sample back issues (or check out samples on our website) in order to become familiar with the journal. We accept only previously unpublished work. We think of the genre as flexible, fluid, and expansive, and so we’re looking for essays in any variety—lyrical, familiar, personal, nature, environmental, travel, and especially graphic. We’re particularly interested in essays that reflect intersections of race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, dis/ability, among others.
