Renee Podunovich

I am an artist, photographer, printmaker, and poet, and the high desert of the American Southwest is my artistic heart’s home.

Here, immense landscapes move through seasons of light, weather, growth, and disappearance. Deep-time histories lie beneath the surface, while the living land continually invites me into conversation. My work grows from listening to that voice.

I work across cyanotype and alternative photographic processes, collage, and traditional printmaking. I am particularly drawn to cyanotype for its elemental nature: light enters, water transforms, and an image emerges. The process feels both photographic and alchemical, revealing something that was present but not yet visible.

Across my visual art and poetry, I explore the threshold between what is seen and what is sensed. A landscape may become an inner terrain; a botanical form may open into memory or mystery. With a touch of magical realism, I seek moments of illumination and expanded awareness while remaining grounded in the senses and the living Earth.

Poetry is woven into this practice. I have published three poetry chapbooks, and in 2019 I received the Cantor Award from the Telluride Literary Festival.
