Suman Pokhrel is a Nepali poet, lyricist, playwright, translator, and artist. His poetry has been translated into multiple languages and featured in prominent literary journals around the world. His theatrical and lyrical works have been performed in the United States, as well as in several Asian and European countries.
Pokhrel’s poetry has been incorporated into academic curricula in Nepal and India. In Nepal, his original Nepali poem Taj Mahal ra Mero Prem (“The Taj Mahal and My Love”) is part of the undergraduate syllabus at Purbanchal University. Additionally, the English translation of his poem Standing in the Market is included in the B.Ed. program at Tribhuvan University. In India, his English poem You are as You are is studied in M.A. English programs at Kerala University, G.D. Goenka University, and Mar Ivanios College (Autonomous). The English version of Taj Mahal ra Mero Prem is also part of the B.A. curriculum at Cauvery College for Women (Autonomous).
Pokhrel has translated and published the works of over a hundred poets and writers from across the globe into Nepali, English, Hindi, and Urdu. He has published eight books to date, including three collections of translations.
He has been recognized with numerous national and international awards. In 2023, he received the Asia's Inspiring Poet Award from Asia Award and the Shaluk International Literature Award from Shaluk Literary Magazine in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was named Author of the Month by Spillwords Press (New York, USA) in June 2023 and again in May 2025. Earlier, he was honored with the SAARC Literary Award in both 2013 and 2015, becoming the only recipient to earn this distinction twice.
