The 39th annual New York State Summer Writers Institute will be held from June 22 to July 19 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. The program features two- and four-week workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. The faculty includes poets Peg Boyers, Henri Cole, Megan Fernandes, Sandra Lim, and Rosanna Warren; fiction writers Elizabeth Benedict, Adam Braver, Vinson Cunningham, Amy Hempel, Binnie Kirshenbaum, Claire Messud, Susan Minot, and Rick Moody; and creative nonfiction writers Phillip Lopate and Thomas Chatterton Williams.

Salty Quill Writers’ Retreat for Women

The Salty Quill Writers’ Retreat for Women offers one-week residencies three times a year to twelve poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators who identify as women at McGee Island, a 110-acre private island located three miles east of Port Clyde, Maine. Residents are provided with lodging at a turn-of-the-century oceanfront summer cottage in single- or shared-occupancy rooms, three chef-prepared meals a day, transportation to and from the island, and the opportunity to participate in after-dinner readings and critiques as well as kayaking, hiking, and taking a sauna.

Headlands Center for the Arts

Headlands Center for the Arts offers four- to ten-week residencies from mid-March to mid-November to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and graphic novelists at its retreat center in the coastal wilderness of the Marin Headlands outside San Francisco. Residents are provided with a private bedroom and work space in a shared house, round-trip airfare, four meals per week, and a $1,000 monthly stipend. Writers not currently enrolled in an academic program are eligible.

Vermont College of Fine Arts Postgraduate Writers’ Conference

The 30th annual Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) Postgraduate Writers’ Conference will be held from August 2 to August 8 on the Champlain College campus in Burlington, Vermont. Indiana University Writers’ Conference

Mesa Verde Writers Conference

North Carolina Writers’ Network Squire Summer Writing Workshops

Sunlit Residency

Sunlit Residency offers weekly residencies of one to three weeks and monthly residencies of up to three months year-round to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translators at the Sue-Je Lee Gage Residency for Human Rights and Social Justice in Ithaca, New York.
