Editorial Focus
The Washington Writers’ Publishing House seeks literary works that deepen/question the human experience. As a DC-based press, its books, especially literary nonfiction, often intersect the personal with the political. Past winners judge manuscripts blind. The next manuscript contests—in poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction—open on April 1. Please note they alternate submissions for works in translation and literary nonfiction. Translation will return in 2027. Only current residents of DC, Maryland, and Virginia may submit.
Tips From the Editor
WWPH is a diverse, inclusive, collaborative literary press staffed entirely by volunteers. Winning authors are also expected to become active members for a minimum of two years. WWPH also publishes a biweekly online literary journal, WWPH Writes, which spotlights work from a poet and prose writer in each issue. This biweekly publication is free to submit and subscribe to—and will give writers insight into our literary sensibility. Contributors are paid $25. More details on WWPH Writes on the website.
