Editorial Focus

Inspired by the small plot of apple trees near Cambridge, England, where writers have gathered for years with their books and pens, the Orchards Poetry Journal is released biannually, in print and online.

In each issue, the editors choose three poems to nominate for the Pushcart Prize.  We also select two poems in each issue for the Grantchester Prize, awarding cash prizes for first and second-place poems.

Tips From the Editor

While we encourage rhymed verse in traditional forms, we also accept finely wrought free verse.

Orchards issues the Grantchester Award, in which editors select two poems for first and second place to receive a cash payment.

Each issue has 190 pages and poetry accepted from approximately 144 authors.
