John Gifford is the author of Red Dirt Country: Field Notes and Essays on Nature, Pecan America: Exploring a Cultural Icon, and Where East Meets West: Essays from Pennington Creek. He has written on a variety of subjects for many publications, including American Forests, EatingWell, Harvard Divinity Bulletin, Southwest Review, Kestrel, The Dallas Morning News, Orion, The Christian Science Monitor, Notre Dame Magazine, the Meadow, The Saturday Evening Post, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Catamaran Literary Reader, and The Atlantic. John Gifford has worked as a freelance writer and photographer since 1997.
