Author's Bio

Ernesto L. Abeytia is a Basque- and Spanish-American poet and teacher. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Arizona State University, an MA in English from Saint Louis University, and an MA in Anglo/North-American Cultural and Literary Studies from the Autonomous University of Madrid in Madrid, Spain.

His poems appear or are forthcoming in Prairie SchoonerFugueThe Shallow EndsCrab Orchard Review, Zócalo Public Square, and PBS NewsHour. He has presented his research and led workshops at various conferences, including The Association of Writers and Writing Programs Conference, the Hawaii International Conference on Arts & Humanities, Arizona State University’s Día de Los Niños/Día de Los Libros, Arizona State University’s Young Adult Writing Program, and Phoenix Fan Fusion. He is the recipient of grants and fellowships from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, Arizona State University, Saint Louis University, the University of Arizona, and Arizona Humanities, where he is a Humanities Scholar.

Ernesto serves as Assistant Editor for Digging Press’ Chapbook Series and Assistant Poetry Editor at Digging Through The Fat literary journal. He is a Poetry Reader at The Offing, a Reviewer at MFA App Review, and a recurring judge for the Texas Association of Creative Writing Teachers’ Annual Graduate and Undergraduate Poetry Contests.

He currently teaches for The Writers’ Studio at Arizona State University.
