Author's Bio

Deborah Clearman is the author of Concepción and the Baby Brokers and Other Stories Out of Guatemala, which Kirkus called “a collection of stories about hard choices borne of desperation and the stark delineations between classes in both Guatemala and the United States.” She is the author of a novel Todos Santos, also set in Guatemala, andThe Goose’s Tale, a children’s book she wrote and illustrated. Her short fiction has appeared in numerous literary journals, including The Adirondack Review, Beloit Fiction Journal, storySouth, and Witness. She is the former Program Director for NY Writers Coalition, a nonprofit organization that gives voice to unheard members of society through the art of writing. She teaches creative writing in such nontraditional venues as senior centers, public housing projects, and the jail for women on Rikers Island. She lives in New York City and Guatemala.
