Casandra Hernández Ríos

Casandra Hernández Ríos is an Indigenous writer and poet born in Ciudad de México and raised in East Los Angeles, California. She writes fiction and poetry in English threaded with Spanish, unitalicized and untranslated.

Her writing explores the experiences of girls and women, often through the objects, memories, and silences that shape their lives. Her cuentos and poemas have appeared in The Acentos Review, Verdad, Azahares Literary Magazine, Litro Magazine, Voices de la Luna, Mystic Owl Magazine, The Hooghly Review, and Santa Ana River Review, among other literary journals. Her short story “Té de Canela” was selected as a contest winner by Helena María Viramontes.

She holds an MFA in Creative Writing (Fiction) from California State University, Long Beach, and teaches college writing and literature at Golden West College in Southern California. Outside of writing and teaching, she looks forward to long summer road trips with her dog.
