The program offers full funding for all admitted students, which includes a full tuition waiver and a quarterly stipend. Funding is covered by a TAship through which students teach English 101, for which they receive extensive training and support. During their first quarter in the program, students are embedded in 101 classrooms and are funded as Learning Assistants.
Admission to the WWU MFA program is not dependent on genre, and students are encouraged to study and experiment across forms. Students also take a combination of courses in literature, film, and rhetoric. Program events include occasional visiting writers and publishers, graduate student readings, the SpeakEasy Series through which faculty members share and discuss works-in-progress, and Bellingham Review events. Students also have the opportunity to work for the Bellingham Review as editors.
The application fee is $100, and if admitted, an additional $100 is collected to confirm admittance.
