Beginning in Fall 2020, the department is offering a limited number of teaching assistantships to MA students in their second year who have met certain requirements.

Individual tuition and fee waivers and graduate assistantships are also available through the University. Visit the Graduate College Tuition & Fee Waiver page and the UIC Job Board for more information.

Other Features:

UIC also offers a PhD in English with creative dissertation. MA and PhD students take writing workshops together.

The two-year program is designed to provide intensive work in a particular genre plus an advanced overview of literary and cultural studies. A three-year option can include secondary teaching certification.

Students complete the MA with a partial manuscript, roughly 75 to 150 pages for prose and 40-50 pages for poetry.
