Derek Updegraff writes short stories and poems and does verse translations from Latin, Middle English, and Old English. He is the author of one short story collection and three chapbooks of poetry and translation, and he is a contributing writer for the Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of Medieval Literature in Britain. He attended Cal State Long Beach (B.A. & M.F.A.) and the University of Missouri (M.A. & Ph.D.), studying fiction, poetry, linguistics, and medieval literature. He started a new B.F.A. program in Creative Writing at California Baptist University in Riverside, where he is currently an Assistant Professor.
