La Baldi Residency

The La Baldi Residency, sponsored by Cultivate, offers two-week and one-month residencies from April through October to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators, in Montegiovi, Italy. Residents are provided with private lodging in apartments, a house, or a palazzo with a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor sitting area. Individual writers and collaborative teams may apply. The cost of the residency is €900 (approximately $1,057) for two weeks or €1,500 (approximately $1,762) for one month for a single artist; €1,300 (approximately $1,527) for two weeks or €2,200 (approximately $2,584) for one month for a collaborative duo; and €1,700 (approximately $1,997) for two weeks or €2,900 (approximately $3,407) for one month for a collaborative team of three; transportation and daily living expenses are not included. Two month-long subsidized residencies are awarded annually and cover the cost of the program. To apply, submit up to 10 pages of poetry or no more than 20 pages of prose, a brief bio, a résumé, a list of publications, and an artist statement by January 2, 2026, for subsidized residencies. For any residency spots that are still open after January 2, writers may submit general applications until May 1. Following these guidelines, translators may submit 10 to 20 pages of poetry or prose in English, including the matching selection in the original language. There is no application fee.
